Foundation Leadership
The Pat Tillman Foundation was created by Pat's family and friends, following his death in April 2004. As a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, the Foundation's goal and mission is to carry forward Pat's legacy by inspiring people to make positive changes in themselves and in the world around them.
The Foundation supports the following flagship program in Arizona, where he excelled as a student-athlete at Arizona State University and as a fan favorite with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals.
Leadership Through Action™ — Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ
- Implemented in 2005, Leadership Through Action™ provides an educational class to inspire and support students – Tillman Scholars — as they develop leadership skills and tackle real-world problems.
- Tillman Scholars are carefully selected annually from ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business and Barrett Honors College to participate in the Leadership Through Action™ program.
- The class provides education, inspiration and mentors, to equip the Tillman Scholars with the tools to identify and evaluate social problems, provide potential solutions to those problems and assist with the implementation of a student designed program to bring positive resolution.
- Today's leaders from business and society – Tillman Mentors — help guide the Tillman Scholars as they develop their projects.
- Leadership Through Action™ also provides funding to help make the most viable programs a reality.
